Fridays – Adventures in the Deserts of Jordan: Inside Recent Excavations at Tor Faraj

Is archaeology really like Indiana Jones? This lecture takes us deep into the desert of southwest Jordan, to a rock shelter site known locally as Tor Faraj. Dr. Steve spent a full summer here as part of a team excavating this rock shelter that dates back to the time of the Neanderthals, at least 60,000 years BC. Portions of the third Indiana Jones movie were filmed in Jordan, but is archaeology anything like the Hollywood version? Neanderthals living in Jordan. Is that even possible? This lecture takes us deep behind the scenes of life on an actual dig, illustrated by numerous unpublished photographs taken by Dr. Steve during a summer on an excavation in the
