Pharaoh’s Builders: Uncovering the Lost City of the Pyramid Builders at Giza
11:00 AM & 1:00 PM/CH
Presented by: Stephen “Dr. Steve” Phillips, Ph.D.
Since the 1990’s, hidden beneath the sands at a site just southeast of the pyramids of Giza, the remains of the city that was built to house the pyramid workers themselves is being uncovered by a joint team of Egyptologists from Harvard University and Cairo University. This lecture explores this amazing site – its context, its layout, its infrastructure and how intensive excavations of the city have drastically revised many popular ideas regarding the lives of the ancient Egyptians who actually built their ruler’s pyramids. How did they feed thousands of workers? Were they enslaved?
