2/8 African-American Music”, focusing on Blues and Jazz. It is believed that the blues came about in the Southern US, among black plantation works, after the end of the Civil War. We will look at the regional styles of the blues, followed by, starting with a history of the blues, followed by a look at the various forms of Jazz.
2/22 We will begin a two-part look at the music of Latin America. Our focus during the February session will be a history of Latin American Music, with its general characteristics. We will close the session looking at the Music of Mexico, its instruments, and its regional styles.
