Instructor: Ira Miller
Life of Leonard Bernstein
In this first lecture in a series on 20th century composers, I will look at the life of Leonard Bernstein, how his Jewish background played a role in his choosing music as his career and how he brought his Judaism to an output that would not be associated with anything Jewish. We will also examine the origin of the jazz Bernstein uses in his instrumental and theatrical works.
