An African Adventure: The Big Five Animals
3/7 Lions, tigers and bears, Oh My!
Actually, the Big Five animals of Africa are the lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and Cape buffalo. The term was coined by big game hunters and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot. Big-game hunting is not as much of a threat to these gentle (and not so gentle) giants as in previous years. Now poaching and the threat to habitat have taken over as the major challenges these species encounter. Two of the five Big Five are now on the endangered or nearly endangered list of land mammals. We will spend time admiring the beauty and strength of these magnificent creatures while learning a little
3/28 Travel Photography
Take a trip around the world. We will explore the incredible landscapes, visit iconic locations, discuss the wildlife, and learn about various cultures. Along the journey we will make quick stops in China, St. Petersburg, Russia, Paris, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Machu Picchu, Havana and more. We will visit several our National Parks including, Horseshoe Bend, The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone as well as locations close to home. Pat will discuss how she approaches her travels through photography by capturing images that express the characteristic features or culture of a land as they are found naturally. Pat will tell the stories behind the photographs transporting you to another place and time.
