Wednesdays – How Did We Get Here?
7/7, 7/14, 7/21, & 7/28
Instructor: Steve Pollack
The Renaissance, the “rebirth” of Western Civilization, in retrospect, is mostly characterized by historians as a nearly seismic shift in human culture, science, art, philosophy and literature. We tend to think of the Renaissance as a time when human thought and behavior began to “grow up,” and be more recognizable to us as we live today. July sessions will explore the Renaissance as Europe’s reaction to the Ottoman Empire’s control of trade routes to the East, and the development of European empire, nationalism and expansion in a race to control the world.
