Mondays – Expedition: Siberia and the Russian Pacific
4/6 & 4/20 @ 11:00 AM/CH
Instructor: Professor Judy Okun
This massive region conveys images of deep freeze, endless forests, isolation, and a point of no return for political prisoners. In addition to these important aspects of the area, we will expand our scope of this diverse and fascinating region to investigate mammoth and human migrations during the Ice Age, indigenous peoples, Lake Baikal and the active volcanoes of the Kamchatka Peninsula, early Russian exploration, conquest, and fur trade, the tsarist/Soviet gulag era, and present day political and environmental issues. Join us on a voyage to an incomparable land.
