Sundays – Art History Appreciation
11/1, 11/8, 11/15 11/22 & 11/29 @ 2:00 PM/CH
11/1 The Pre-Raphaelites – A rebellious art movement in England, The Pre-Raphaelites inspired a rejection of the Academy and Salon standards and produced some of the most fascinating images of 19th century art.
11/8 Paul Gauguin – one of Van Gogh’s best friends and supporters, Gauguin pushed the limits of Impressionism to further fringes with his flattening of the canvas and images of Tahitian women after his departure from France.
11/15 Paul Cezanne – Often called the “father of Post-Impressionism,” he focused on geometric structure, solid forms, and multiple perspectives, which later inspired Cubism.
11/22 George Seurat – Pioneer of Neo-Impressionism and Pointillism, who built images using tiny dots of pure, scientific color mixing.
11/29 Henri Rousseau – His dream images and simplistic, primitive approach were a source of ridicule during his lifetime but have become some of the most popular of his entire generation.
