Monday – Speaker Series: The Tragedy of Leo Frank: More Than One Hundred Years Later

11/16 @ 1:30 PM/CH

Hosted by: Diane Steinbrink

In this lecture, Diane will discuss the tragedy of Leo Frank, a young Jewish man who was lynched in 1915, and its impact on the Atlanta Jewish community. After all these years and what is going on in our country today there is still relevance in how various people and groups treat each other. It will feature monologues of Mrs. Frank, Leo’s widow, from PARADE, the Tony Award Winning Musical play written by Alfred Uhry, the Atlanta playwright.

She will also share what Uhry told her about his growing up in Atlanta and knowing some of the family involved in the Frank case. She will discuss Mrs. Frank’s life after Leo’s death, and how the Atlanta community dealt with the tragedy and its ongoing effect and its eventual commemoration.

Q&A will follow.
