OUR NAME – RICH IN HISTORY
The actual Lions Gate (Sha’ar Ha’Arayot) lies north of the Temple Mount in the east wall of Old Jerusalem. In the Bible, there are more than 150 metaphorical and allegorical references to lions.
The lion has been used to describe the bravery of the tribe of Judah as well as David, “his heart is as the heart of a lion.” It has also been employed figuratively when referring to a scholar from distinguished parentage, “a lion, son of a lion.” It is the symbol of Jewish bravery, strength and pride that can be found throughout the ages in Jewish art – embellishing the synagogue ark, on the ancient synagogue mosaics, adorning Torah breastplates and crowns, Shabbat candlesticks and menorahs.
The Lions Gate name perfectly represents the strength, triumph and dignity of the seniors we serve every day.
