“Living here is wonderful. Every day is filled with friends, learning, and things I love to do.”

At just under five feet tall, Judy Batterman may be small in stature, but she is a giant in spirit. Her quick wit, boundless curiosity, and impeccable sense of style make her a vibrant presence in Lions Gate’s Independent Living community. Dressed in a sparkly denim outfit with an ear-to-ear smile, Judy stands out in any crowd.

Judy lives a wonderful life at Lions Gate. As an Independent Living resident, Judy has a car and comes and goes as she pleases – whether it’s to get her hair done, enjoy a meal with friends at a local restaurant, or visit her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren. Life here offers the freedom of independent living with the added benefit of a vibrant, engaging community filled with amenities, activities, and meaningful connections.

Most of Judy’s time is spent on the Lions Gate campus. The choice of activities is extensive and there’s something for everyone. Her weekly routine includes a variety of intellectually challenging classes. “I go to Critical Thinking. I like that,” she said. “And then the History Class… and I go to the Book Club.” She also enjoys a political discussion group led by a fellow resident. There’s no doubt these groups and classes help keep her, as the saying goes, “sharp as a tack.”

Judy has made many friends and found a strong sense of belonging. She says, “You can always come downstairs. There’s somebody you know to have a cup of coffee with or have lunch with. Having friends is one of the best parts of living at Lions Gate.”

She moved here in October 2021 after more than five decades in her Cherry Hill home. Since then, Judy’s found the perfect balance of independence, stimulation, and fellowship.

When it comes to the staff, Judy has nothing but praise. “They are lovely!” she said. “Helpful and nice.” She also noted that the team keeps everything running smoothly. And as for the food, Judy has a special fondness for the Bistro and the dedicated people who work there.

Judy now feels right at home. “It’s wonderful,” she said. From her favorite classes to conversations over coffee, Judy Batterman has found exactly what she values most: friendship, learning, and comfort in a place that feels like family. Lions Gate is the perfect blend of independence and community.
