The presentations for the Men’s Chew & Chat Club are great. They keep everyone talking, reflecting, and learning. At Lions Gate, an open mind and a good sandwich really can change your thinking!
There’s nothing better than grabbing lunch with a friend, and at Lions Gate, the Men’s Chew & Chat Club makes it easy for the guys to make friends, learn something new, and nosh on some delicious sandwiches as they spend an afternoon in conversation.
David Schwarz, the volunteer who coordinates the presenters for the monthly Men’s Chew & Chat gathering, has spent much of his life seeking out speakers who have unique perspectives, skills, or ideas to share. “I was Vice President of Operations for the South Jersey Men’s Club, in charge of speakers,” said David. “I have met so many wonderful speakers over the years, and I thought the guys at Lions Gate would be interested in these kinds of presentations, as well. The Men’s Chew & Chat presentations cover the gamut. We feature speakers talking about current events with a local community connection. We enjoy speakers that cover sports, science, topics related to Israel, the Holocaust, and the Jewish faith. We even have residents who become speakers when they give a presentation on a hobby they have a particular expertise in. Today’s speaker is Harriet Hendel, and she will be talking about the Innocence Project and the new book Framed, by John Grisham and Jim McClosky, covering 10 different cases of wrongful conviction. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Lions Gate CEO, Dave Thompson, is a regular at the Men’s Chew & Chat Club. “I really look forward to getting together with the guys each month,” said Dave. “This club gives men a chance to gather, consider new ideas, and form friendships through that shared experience. They don’t have to have anything in common with the guy sitting next to them eating lunch, but because they both just heard a fascinating presentation, that jumpstarts conversations they wouldn’t have otherwise. The turnout is great every month, and the discussion is always invigorating.”
Resident Steve Anderson is a regular Men’s Chew & Chat Club participant. “This club is a great opportunity to talk informally,” said Steve. “The group dynamic allows everyone to jump into the discussion. I think it’s also worth noting that the core benefit of being part of this group is the knowledge and new insights we gain, enhancing our life with stimulating new dimension and depth on critical topics.”
Resident Marty Raffner is impressed with the quality of the presentations. “I come in with my own opinions,” said Marty. “And I leave well-informed with a new way of thinking. You really can teach an old dog new tricks!”
