The name “Russia” conveys many images—tundra, Communism, Tsars, Mongols, Siberia—to name just a few. The class will examine this vast region through a geographic and historical lens, delving into its dramatic and often turbulent past and present while also situating Russia in relation to its neighbors, particularly Ukraine, Central Asia, and China.
