“From walks around the community to great programs and friends, there’s always a way to enjoy life here.”

“There’s so much going on here…it’s really fantastic,” says Rhoda Abrams, 89, settling into a favorite chair on the patio.

Rhoda is an Assisted Living resident who makes the most of Lions Gate’s campus and activities. Her routine mixes a steady stream of concerts, trips, and crafting, proof of the community’s guiding belief that engagement and choice belong in everyday life. “You need a reason to get out of bed,” she says. “And here, there are lots of reasons.”

The activities calendar is deliberately varied: happy hours with live music, card games, fitness options, and hands-on sessions like baking and flower arranging. Often, she can be found enjoying the comfort of the lounge while keeping her mind sharp with word puzzle books.

When the weather is particularly nice, she likes to sit outside. For Rhoda, those little rituals, sun on the patio, a hello from a neighbor, add up to a sense of belonging. “The grounds are wonderful…perfect. Just perfect.”

Rhoda moved to Lions Gate in February 2025, where she found the additional support and personalized rehabilitation she needed. Physical Therapy keeps her moving, providing day-to-day assistance when she asks for it, and encourages her to keep doing what she loves. “You take a breath and keep going,” she says. “And the team helps you do that.”

She appreciates the steady, friendly rhythm of life at Lions Gate and the care shown by the staff. Rhoda notes that housekeeping is taken care of, the staff shows genuine care, and she has the freedom to plan her day around what brings her joy. “They’re a hardworking, nice group of people,” Rhoda says of the staff. “Especially those in the dining room.”

This will be Rhoda’s first full winter at Lions Gate, and she has plans: more crafting, more concerts, more fitness classes, and more Eagles games with neighbors.

Rhoda’s story is, at heart, a Lions Gate story: a community that pairs support with choice, care with connection, and a beautiful setting with a full calendar of ways to enjoy it. “There’s so much going on here,” she repeats, smiling. “It’s really fantastic.”
