Thursdays – Music in the Period of Common Practice
12/11 & 12/18 @ 2:00 PM/CH
Instructor: Ira Miller
12/11 Ira Miller will present Haydn’s Major Choral Works and his concerti. His major choral works include The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross, a Mass known as the Mass for Troubled Times or the Lord Nelson Mass, The Creation, and its so-called sequel, The Seasons. His important Concerti include a Cello Concerto, and a Trumpet Concerto.
12/18 Ira Miller focuses on the life of Mozart and two important Masses. Mozart’s unfinished Great Mass, and Mozart’s unfinished Requiem Mass. The Great Mass was written as a celebration of his marriage to Constanze and the Requiem Mass, which is considered among the greatest works written for chorus and orchestra, and was falsely rumored to have been commissioned anonymously by a mysterious stranger. It would remain unfinished at Mozart’s death.
