Cleopatra undoubtedly is ancient Egypt’s most famous queen. She is also the subject ofliterature and lore stretching from the historians of ancient Rome to Shakespeare, to present day literature, cinema, and television. What do we really know about Cleopatra, how do weknow it?

This lecture reviews the actual archaeological data (such as it is) related to Cleopatra, to tellus the historical context of ancient Egypt’s fabled queen. Did she even really exist? Do weknow what she looked like? Did she really marry Mark Anthony? Do we even have any ideawhere she was buried??

This highly illustrated talk looks at, and it looks for, the latest evidence concerning ancient Egypt’s last native ruler and her significant role in ancient Egyptian history.
