Thursday – Ethics in Modern Life
10/9 & 10/23 11:00 AM/MR
Hosted by: Sarah Rosenson
In each of these sessions we will discuss a different ethical issue that has strong arguments on both sides. Our issues will be drawn from a wide range of sources and will cover a wide variety of topics but will always foster lively discussion.
10/9 We will discuss the famous thought experiment known as the trolley problem, which will lead to a discussion of whether self-driving cars should be programmed to protect the passengers inside the car or the pedestrians outside the car if the brakes fail.
10/23 We will talk about scenarios from the New York Times Ethicist column that ask what our ethical obligations are to help someone who has some kind of serious need.
