10/21 An African Adventure: The Big Five Animals
Lions, tigers and bears, Oh My!
The Big Five animals of Africa are the lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and Cape buffalo. The term was coined by big game hunters and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa hunting on foot. Big-game hunting is not as much of a threat to these gentle (and not so gentle) giants as in previous years. Now poaching and the threat to habitat have taken over as the major challenges these species encounter. Two of the five Big Five are now on the endangered or nearly endangered list of land mammals. We will spend time admiring the beauty and strength of these magnificent creatures while learning a little about their current conservation status.
10/28 The Grand Tetons
Grand Tetons National Park is in northwestern Wyoming just 10 miles south of Yellowstone National Park. The Park features majestic purple mountain peaks, beautiful lakes and rivers and an abundance of wildlife. We will tour the park as the Aspens showcase their vibrant yellow leaves and the black bears gorge on berries before hibernating for the winter.
