Mondays – The Horse, the Plains and the Comanche

11/11, & 11/25 @11:00 AM/CH

Hosted by: Professor Judy Okun

We will discuss the introduction and importance of the horse to the Great Plains and to Native Americans of the 17th century, particularly west of the Missouri River.  Through our discussion of the Comanche Indians, who created the most powerful native empire of the 18th and 19th centuries, we will track how the horse led to the indelible transformation of Plains Indian societies. Topics: the Bering Strait, mustangs, bison, Taos Revolt, Comanche Ria, and more.
