Fridays – Food in Ancient Egypt and the Ancient Roman World
12/13 & 12/20 @ 11:00 AM/CH
Instructor: Stephen “Dr. Steve” Phillips, Ph.D.
This topic explores the amazing variety of foods available to the ancient Egyptians, what we know and how we know it based on archaeology, and then how several of Egypt’s food groups eventually spread into the Mediterranean world of ancient Greece and ancient Rome.
What did the ancient Egyptians, then the Greeks, and Romans eat and drink? What is comprised of a typical ancient dinner? Did they have beer? Wine? Waiters? Pizza Hut? As you will learn, the diet of these ancient populations was much more varied than you might think.
