4/11 the focus will be on the beginnings of the Broadway Musical. We will listen to examples from early Vaudeville to the great composers of Tin Pan Alley, finishing with music from some of the great Broadway musicals.
4/25 Ira Miller will resume with the series on American Popular Music Through 1970 by looking at the phonograph and the radio, two inventions that would change music forever. We will look at the appearance of popular jazz and swing before an overview of popular song in American Films.
